Day 9: Kingston to Elmsford

July 5, 2022December 28, 2022 / Dan Gjelten / Leave a comment

After a really nice evening in Kingston, we got another early start on Saturday morning, around 6:45. We had a 95 mile day ahead of us, to Elmsford, a little town in Westchester County and close to Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. I'd declared last year that we would not be doing anymore long days like … Continue reading Day 9: Kingston to Elmsford

Day 8: Albany to Kingston

June 20, 2022May 24, 2024 / Dan Gjelten / 2 Comments

We woke early on Friday, knowing we had a 75 mile day down to Kingston. It was strange to pack up and leave without Cindy and Paul, but they were sleeping in and then planning to walk about Albany as they got ready for a 7:00 pm train departure back to St. Paul. So it … Continue reading Day 8: Albany to Kingston

Day 7: Amsterdam to the Hudson River and Albany

June 16, 2022September 30, 2024 / Dan Gjelten / 2 Comments

We slept in a little this morning as we only had 49 miles left on this leg of our trip. Our hours in Amsterdam were fun, restful and nourishing - it was a pretty and friendly little town. We coasted down the steep hill by the Castle and were back on the trail in minutes, … Continue reading Day 7: Amsterdam to the Hudson River and Albany

Day 6: Utica to Amsterdam NY

June 15, 2022September 30, 2024 / Lisa / 1 Comment

This was a great day of riding, nearly all on paved trails and we covered 66 miles in record time (at least for us) . We started the day in the Rosewood Bed and Breakfast and chatted with the other guests over coffee as we waited for warm bread pudding with blueberries, then loaded up … Continue reading Day 6: Utica to Amsterdam NY

Day 5: Syracuse to Utica

June 15, 2022September 30, 2024 / Dan Gjelten / Leave a comment

While biking into and out of big, unfamiliar cities can be challenging, I sometimes feel like it might be easier to ride into a city than to drive in. Chicago is a good example - I’ve ridden south from Kenosha into the northern suburbs and then along the lakeshore and right into downtown and it … Continue reading Day 5: Syracuse to Utica

Day 4: Waterloo to Syracuse (and Dan’s birthday)

June 14, 2022July 15, 2022 / Dan Gjelten / 3 Comments

There was some terrible weather yesterday after we arrived in Waterloo - we’d taken a short walk for a late lunch at the Mexican restaurant on Main Street and relaxed there during the torrential rain. After lunch, we went back for naps in our rooms and it turned out to be a great day. We … Continue reading Day 4: Waterloo to Syracuse (and Dan’s birthday)

About Us

Hello from Dan and Lisa! We live near the Mississippi River in St. Paul, MN. One morning a few years ago, one of us said ‘hey, maybe we should ride our bikes from our front door to the French Quarter.’  And that’s what we did. This blog is intended to serve as a chronicle of that trip and other adventures, at the  “confluence” between us and the river, people, art, music, food and culture we’ll experience along the way.
